Trust in Vladimir Putin rose 3.2 points in a week to 75.6%, state pollster VTsIOM found, back above its level before September's State Duma elections.

VTsIOM's survey of October 19-25 also had 71.6% of Russians approving of the president's work, up 3.4 points, Vedomosti reported on October 30. The state-run Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) found the same direction in its poll of October 23-25: 72% trust Putin and 73% approve of his performance, both up three points.

The rebound restores Putin's numbers after a dip in the weeks following the Duma vote of September 18-20. VTsIOM had trust in the president at 74.2% in mid-September, and Kremlin-friendly pollsters had already diverged on United Russia before the election. Putin's ratings hit a post-war low in April as an internet crackdown fed discontent.

The government gained too. VTsIOM put trust in Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at 55.6%, up 3.1 points, with 45.4% approving of his work and 44.2% approving of the cabinet. FOM had 53% approving of Mishustin and 48% of the government.

Both pollsters showed the ruling United Russia party gaining. VTsIOM put its support at 32.5%, up 2.5 points, and FOM at 35%, up three. The Communist Party (CPRF) lost ground in both, falling 1.9 points to 14% in the VTsIOM poll and one point to 13% in FOM's. The nationalist LDPR slipped 0.3 points to 9.5% with VTsIOM but rose two points to 11% with FOM, while New People and A Just Russia barely moved.

Among party leaders, 37.2% of respondents told VTsIOM they trust CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov, up 1.4 points, and 28% trust A Just Russia's Sergei Mironov, up 2.4 points.

VTsIOM questioned 1,600 adults, half by telephone and half face to face, with a margin of error of 2.5%. FOM interviewed 1,500 people at home in 51 regions, with a margin of error of up to 3.6%. Both are state-run, and polling in Russia is constrained by respondents' reluctance to answer political questions candidly.
