Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index closed above 1,800 points, rebounding more than 17 points as Vingroup-linked shares drove the recovery, Việt Nam News reported. The index ended at 1,816.93 on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange, while the HNX-Index in Hanoi added more than 2.5 points to 276.93.

The rebound came days after FTSE Russell upgraded Vietnam to secondary emerging market status, a reclassification that has drawn attention from global funds rebalancing portfolios towards the frontier market's largest listings.

Trading value across the two main bourses fell to more than VND13.6 trillion ($523mn) despite the index gains. Market breadth was positive, with 219 stocks advancing against 181 decliners. The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 largest stocks on HoSE, rose over 12 points to 1,965.36, with 16 constituents up, nine down and five unchanged.

Vingroup (VIC) climbed more than 3.7% and Vinhomes (VHM) advanced more than 1.9%, recovering from selling pressure in the previous session. The pair alone contributed more than 18 points to the VN-Index, more than the benchmark's total gain.

Masan Group (MSN) added nearly one point to the index, while Gelex Electric (GEE), Vinamilk (VNM), VPBank Securities (VPX), Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG) and Sabeco (SAB) together contributed more than two points.

Masan has extended gains over several sessions after reporting net revenue of more than VND77 trillion for the first eight months of the year, up 52% year on year. Profit after tax before minority interests reached VND8.5 trillion, around 2.2 times the level recorded a year earlier.

SeABank (SSB) bucked the trend, falling to its daily floor for a second consecutive session after more than 8.4mn shares were registered for sale by bank executives and their relatives. The stock had earlier surged on portfolio restructuring tied to the market upgrade before reversing.

Foreign investors returned to net buying after selling on the first day of the FTSE Russell reclassification, purchasing nearly VND63bn on HoSE and VND4.8bn on HNX. Thanh Thanh Cong-Bien Hoa (SBT) led foreign net buying at more than VND140bn, followed by Masan Consumer (MCH) at nearly VND68bn and Vingroup at VND49bn.
