Tehran came under repeated aerial bombardment overnight, with strikes continuing into the early hours on March 31, hitting residential and infrastructure sites across the Iranian capital.

IRIB News reported that power had been restored to parts of eastern Tehran that suffered outages during the overnight raids, after shrapnel damaged equipment at an electrical substation.

"Due to shrapnel hitting the intake facilities of one of the power substations, there was a disruption and an outage, which was resolved by the rapid action of technical teams, and subscribers' power was reconnected to the grid in a short time," the state broadcaster reported.

Fars News Agency reported that strikes at 6am on March 31 hit Kuy-e Nasr street in the Gisha neighbourhood in District 2, the area around Quran Square, and Shahid Babaei expressway beyond Imam Ali in District 4.

The agency also reported hits near Mohtadi Street in District 13 and along the Special Road and the end of the old Karaj highway in District 21.

Israel had earlier announced it was carrying out large-scale attacks on locations across Tehran.

Other Iranian cities were also targeted. Zanjan, Isfahan and Shiraz all came under attack on the night of March 30 and into the morning of March 31, according to reports.

The strikes on eastern Tehran knocked out electricity to parts of the district, though officials said repairs were completed quickly.

The breadth of the reported strike locations, spanning at least four municipal districts of the capital, points to a wide targeting pattern across Tehran's north, east and west.

Elsewhere, Israel and the US struck several other sites across Iran, with the IRGC striking back at Tel Aviv and Bnei Brak.
