Vietnam bourse market value jumps 7.55% in August as billion-dollar club grows to 52

Market capitalisation on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HoSE) rose 7.55% in August and the number of listed companies worth more than $1bn climbed to 52 from 48 a month earlier, Việt Nam News reported, citing the exchange's monthly market report.
The gains came as Vietnamese equities extended a rally that has pushed the benchmark index to record territory, with total stock market value on HoSE now equivalent to 68.84% of the country's 2025 gross domestic product and accounting for more than 94.89% of the capitalisation of all listed stocks nationwide.
At the close on August 28 the VN-Index stood at 1,832.12 points, up 5.55% from the previous month. The VNAllshare rose 5.71% to 1,863.41 points and the VN30-Index added 5.92% to 1,982.96 points. Total capitalisation exceeded VND8.84 quadrillion.
Nine of HoSE's sector indices advanced. Information technology led with a 9.06% gain, followed by consumer discretionary at 8.95% and real estate at 6.87%. Healthcare was the sole decliner, down 1.25%.
Turnover eased. More than 13.5bn shares traded during the month for a combined VND346.74 trillion ($13.4bn), down 2.29% in volume and 2.23% in value from July. Average daily volume was above 675mn shares, worth over VND17.34 trillion.
Covered warrant trading moved the other way, with volume up 22.17% and value up 14.51%. Exchange-traded fund activity weakened, with average daily volume down 17.03% and turnover down 17.73%.
Foreign investors accounted for 11.44% of total trading value, generating more than VND79.35 trillion, and were net sellers of over VND1.74 trillion.
Four companies were valued above $10bn: Vingroup (VIC), Vinhomes (VHM), Vietcombank (VCB) and BIDV (BID).
Newcomers Dien May Xanh (DMX) and LPBank Securities (LPS) joined the billion-dollar group after listing during the month, while EVNGENCO3 (PGV) and Vietcap Securities (VCI) returned to it.
Nearly 1.3bn DMX shares began trading on August 6 at VND80,000 apiece, followed by more than 1.4bn LPS shares on August 18 at VND30,000 per share.
