Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to travel to New Delhi for the eighteenth BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13 2026, with discussions expected to combine geopolitical risks and efforts to deepen economic ties with India, according to a statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as cited by Sputnik.

Putin is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly on September 11, a day before the summit. The talks are expected to include an update on the military situation in Ukraine and its implications for bilateral relations. Economic cooperation is also due to feature prominently, including plans for greater investment by Indian companies across Russian industries.

The leaders are expected to review cross-border transport infrastructure projects, an area that could support trade flows and strengthen connectivity between the two economies.

Energy security is likely to gain importance as the conflict in West Asia continues to create disruptions in global markets. India and Russia are also expected to discuss coordinated approaches to limiting the economic effects of such shocks, particularly those affecting energy supplies and prices.

The leaders are slated to hold private discussions on ways to sustain economic cooperation while managing pressure from countries outside their partnership. The talks could provide an opportunity to address constraints affecting trade, investment and connectivity without disclosing specific new agreements.

The visit follows an engagement between Putin and Modi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit a few weeks ago in Bishkek.
