Peruvian online commerce moved $19.3bn in the first half of 2026, up 50.4% from a year earlier, according to the Peruvian E-Commerce Chamber (CAPECE).

Operations topped 1bn between January and June, a rise of 49%. Yet the average ticket fell 5.3%, from PEN190 (around $56) in 2025 to PEN180, suggesting growth is being driven by more transactions rather than bigger baskets.

Digital wallets have displaced cards as the leading payment method. They accounted for 60.7% of transactions, with more than 664mn operations, and 37.6% of sales volume, or about $7.3bn. Debit cards took 32.4% of volume and credit cards 27.9%, while cash payments via vouchers fell to 2%. Credit cards posted the fastest growth in processed value, at 62.8%, followed by debit cards at 45.6% and wallets at 32.9%.

Digital goods and services made up 44.8% of the market, at roughly $8.7bn. Retail accounted for 30.2%, or about $5.8bn, and tourism 25%, or around $4.8bn. Remote gaming and betting jumped 159%, which CAPECE linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while games rose 110% and intercity bus tickets 105%.

CAPECE estimates 24.3mn Peruvians shopped online, equivalent to 60% of the population. Provinces account for 55% of digital buyers but only 35% of sales value, as their purchase frequency and average ticket are lower than in Lima.

The number of businesses selling online climbed to 937,610 from 812,603 in 2025. Only about 27,700 have a structured channel such as an online store or app, while some 510,000 sell through payment gateways or links and roughly 701,000 sell via social media and collect payment through wallets.

The first-half performance extends 2025, when the sector moved $27.75bn, 78% more than in 2024.
