Russian ballistic missiles hit Kyiv overnight on October 18-19, killing one person and injuring eight, as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the US holds back Patriot interceptors Ukraine has paid for.

The missiles hit a medical centre in the Desnianskyi district and a building in the Dniprovskyi district, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, the Kyiv Independent reported. A 21-year-old woman was killed, debris damaged the above-ground section of Chernihivska metro station and hit a 25-storey residential block in the Solomianskyi district, the Kyiv Post reported. CASUALTY FIGURES: KYIV STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE VIA CENSOR.NET (ONE KILLED, EIGHT INJURED); NO SOURCE READ SAYS A HOSPITAL WAS HIT - THE OFFICIAL WORDING IS 'MEDICAL CENTRE'.

The US is supplying about 12 Patriot missiles a month, roughly a quarter of the rate under former president Joe Biden, and has approved only part of a consignment Ukraine has paid for, Zelenskiy told Bloomberg on October 18. "And this is not a technical issue," he said. ZELENSKIY'S CLAIM; THE US HAS NOT CONFIRMED THE FIGURES.

On the other side, Russia's defence ministry said air defences destroyed 149 Ukrainian drones overnight over 13 regions and Crimea, against the 1,015 it claimed a night earlier, Interfax reported. RUSSIAN DEFENCE MINISTRY CLAIM. NO DAMAGE IN RUSSIA FROM THE NIGHT OF OCTOBER 18-19 HAD BEEN REPORTED IN THE SOURCES READ AT THE TIME OF WRITING.

St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov put the toll from the October 17-18 drone attack on the city at one killed and five injured, with fires at the oil terminal, the Ruchyi oil depot and industrial warehouses in the Kolpinsky district, Reuters reported. Tit for tat

A night after Ukraine set St Petersburg's oil terminal burning, Russia sent ballistic missiles into Kyiv, where a metro station and a medical centre were hit. Moscow's own count of Ukrainian drones fell from 1,015 to 149.

The argument has moved to Washington. Zelenskiy offered to stop hitting Russian diesel in return for Patriots; by his account, the US wants the strikes stopped without the trade.

The ledgers

The running ledgers are kept as six public spreadsheets at permanent addresses. The first three are non-exhaustive, every row is sourced, and where only one side has spoken the row says so. Defence ministry figures are recorded as claims, and in the sabotage ledger attribution is given exactly as the authorities state it and no further. The fourth tracks what has happened to Ukraine's steel, iron ore, coke, ferroalloy and non-ferrous plants since 2021, grouped by owner. The fifth tracks strikes on data centres, telecoms, media and research sites; the sixth tracks refinery strikes.
