Kosovo will hold early parliamentary elections on June 7, acting president Albulena Haxhiu announced, following consultations with political parties and electoral authorities.

The upcoming ballot will be Kosovo’s third general election since February 2025, reflecting ongoing political instability and repeated institutional deadlock.

“After assessing the constitutional deadlines, the organisational needs of the CEC, and the importance of the widest possible participation of citizens, I have decided that the elections for the Assembly will be held on June 7,” Haxhiu said.

The decision comes after a broad consensus among political parties, which signalled support for the proposed date during consultations with the presidency.

Bedri Hamza, leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said his party would accept any date within constitutional deadlines but confirmed that June 7 had majority backing, Koha.net reported. Representatives of other parties also endorsed the date.

The vote follows the failure of parliament to elect a president within the April 28 constitutional deadline, triggering the requirement for new elections within 45 days. Vjosa Osmani's mandate expired on April 5.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who formed a second consecutive government after the December 28 snap election, failed to secure support for his Vetëvendosje Movement's candidates for president, while declining to back the re-election of Osmani as a candidate of the LDK; the PDK, meanwhile, refused to participate in the presidential election process.
