Iran-linked hackers claim major cyberattack on Dubai government infrastructure

The Iran-linked hacker group Handala has claimed to have launched a large-scale cyberattack against three Dubai government organisations, alleging it destroyed six petabytes of data and extracted 149 terabytes of classified documents.
The group said in a statement on April 12 that it had targeted the Dubai Courts Department, Dubai Land Department and Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, describing the attack as retaliation for what it called the UAE's "betrayal of the Resistance Axis."
Handala claimed the operation had caused "unprecedented and widespread disruptions" to the targeted organisations and wider city operations.
The group said six petabytes of data had been "completely destroyed and rendered irrecoverable."
"Not even the deepest corners of Dubai's glass towers and so-called secure rooms are safe from the reach and capabilities of the Resistance's cyber forces," the statement said.
The claims could not be independently verified. Dubai authorities had not issued a public response at the time of publication.
Handala has previously been linked to cyberattacks targeting Israeli and Gulf state infrastructure.
The group's statement framed the attack as a warning to regional governments it accused of working against Iranian interests during the ongoing conflict.
The claimed attack comes at a sensitive moment as ceasefire talks continue in Islamabad and Gulf states navigate a difficult diplomatic position between Washington and Tehran.
