Israeli renewable energy company Econergy Renewable Energy has acquired full ownership of the 155 MWp Rătești photovoltaic plant, Romania’s largest operational solar project, after agreeing to buy out its partner Nofar Energy’s 50% stake, Econergy said in a press release on October 5. 

The transaction, valued at €45.6mn, will be paid in three instalments by June 2026. Econergy International, 75.2% owned by Econergy Renewable Energy, signed the agreement with Tel Aviv Stock Exchange-listed Nofar Energy. As part of the deal, Econergy will also assume control of a €14.9mn shareholder loan previously provided by Nofar.

Located in Rătești, Argeș County, northwest of Bucharest, the solar plant is currently the largest of its kind in Romania. Econergy expects a capital gain of €13mn from the transaction.

The company also announced plans to install a 120 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) alongside the facility under an additional €32mn investment. The system is projected to generate €15mn in annual revenue and €12mn in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA).

Econergy said its Romanian portfolio of solar, wind and storage assets now totals 3.5 GW, including 473 MW either operational or grid-ready, 763 MW under construction and 395 MW scheduled to begin construction by the end of 2025. The company’s total global project pipeline exceeds 14 GW.
