The Technical University of Zagreb will launch Croatia's first public undergraduate study programme dedicated to video game development in the 2028/29 academic year, as the country seeks to strengthen its growing gaming industry, the Gaming Industry Center said in a Facebook post.

The programme was presented at the university's Borongaj campus as part of a collaboration with the Gaming Industry Center, which is being developed as a hub for the sector.

"The Technical University of Zagreb is moving into the Gaming Industry Center and opening a new study program dedicated to video game development!" the university said in a Facebook post announcing the initiative.

The programme will enrol its first students in the 2028/29 academic year, according to the announcement.

The presentation brought together government officials, local authorities, university staff and representatives of Croatia's gaming industry. Those attending included Science, Education and Youth Minister Radovan Fuchs, Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak and Novska Mayor Marija Kušmiš.

Representatives of the Cluster of Croatian Video Game Producers (CGDA) and companies operating from the PISMO gaming incubator also attended.

The initiative links the Zagreb university with a broader gaming-industry development project in Sisak-Moslavina County, where Novska has become a focal point for Croatia's video game sector.

The university said the programme had been developed with employees involved in creating the curriculum and the team behind the Gaming Industry Center project.
