Uzbekistan’s headline inflation edges down to 7.0% in April

Annual inflation in Uzbekistan eased to 7.0% in April, very slightly down from 7.1% in March and comparing with the 10.1% that was posted 12 months ago, according to the national statistical committee.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.6%, a figure that was unchanged from March and a tad below the 0.7% recorded in April 2025.
Core inflation, looking at prices excluding fruit and vegetables, stood at 7.6% y/y in April, down from 12.3% a year earlier.
Over the first four months of 2026, consumer prices increased 2.5%, broadly in line with the 2.9% rise recorded over the same period in 2025.
Food prices continued to be the main driver of monthly inflation, rising 1.0% in April and contributing more than 60% of the overall increase.
Non-food prices rose a modest 0.3% m/m and 5.2% y/y, continuing a downward trend from the 6.7% annual inflation seen in April 2025.
Services inflation also slowed but remained elevated, increasing 0.4% on the month and 12.0% compared with a year earlier.
In the transport sector, gasoline prices increased by 1.4% m/m and 11.2% y/y.
Propane (LPG) prices decreased by 2.8% over the month and by 16.7% compared to April 2025, with an upper price limit of UZS 7,000 ($0.58) set per litre.
Methane prices edged up 0.7% on the month and were nearly 28% higher than a year earlier.
In passenger transport, prices increased for:
- International flights: +2.6% m/m (-7.9% y/y)
- Domestic flights: +2.3% m/m (-13.1% y/y)
- City bus travel: +1.6% m/m (+16.4% y/y)
- Long-distance rail: +1.4% m/m (+13.6% y/y)
Utility tariffs were largely stable, with the exception of waste collection services, which were up 2.4% m/m and 28.0% y/y.
