Uzbekistan’s foreign arrivals jump sixfold from 1.9mn in 2021 to 11.7mn in 2025

Around 1.9mn people last year came to the country for leisure and recreational tourism. Figure rose by around 740,000 year on year.

Uzbekistan’s foreign arrivals expanded by 3.72mn, or 47% y/y, to 11.68mn in 2025, according to national statistical committee data. 

Looking back over the past five years, foreign visitor trips to Uzbekistan increased from 1.88mn in 2021 to 5.23mn in 2022, 6.63mn in 2023, 7.96mn in 2024 and the just-announced 11.68mn in 2025.

Visits to relatives accounted for the majority of the arrivals. In 2025, 7.86mn trips, or 67.3% of all visits, were made for this purpose.

Leisure and recreational tourism accounted for 1.92mn trips (16.5%), while business trips totalled 1.32mn (11.3%).

Commercial visits reached 446,800 trips (3.8%), while 86,200 trips (0.7%) were made for medical treatment.

Education-related travel accounted for 39,700 trips (0.3%).

Compared with 2024, visits to relatives increased by 1.76mn, leisure trips rose by 737,700, business trips increased by 983,000 and commercial visits grew by 247,800. Medical visits declined by 18,700, while education trips increased by 14,600. 

Visitors from neighbouring Central Asian countries accounted for the largest share of foreign arrivals.

The highest number of trips to Uzbekistan was recorded by citizens of Kyrgyzstan, who made 3.32mn visits. Tajikistan followed with 2.70mn trips, while Kazakhstan recorded 2.67mn visits.

Other major source countries included Russia with 984,400 visits, Afghanistan with 476,700 and Turkmenistan with 370,000.

Among other countries, China accounted for 278,900 trips, Turkey for 174,900, India for 80,900 and South Korea for 46,300.

European and North American visitors included those from Italy (43,200), Germany (43,000), the United States (36,900), Belarus (32,600), Japan (31,800), France (29,600), Spain (27,500) and the United Kingdom (26,100).

Further arrivals were recorded from Iran (23,900) and Azerbaijan (23,400), while 271,300 trips were made by citizens of other countries. 

Travel abroad by Uzbek citizens also increased last year. Residents made 7.56mn outbound trips in 2025, up by 1.38mn trips or 22.3% compared with 2024. 

Looking at outbound travel by Uzbek citizens over the past five years, journeys abroad rose from 2.19mn in 2021 to 5.16mn in 2022, fell to 4.79mn in 2023 then grew to 6.18mn in 2024 before reaching 2025’s 7.56mn.

As with inbound travel, visiting relatives accounted for the largest share of outbound trips. In 2025, 5.89mn trips (77.9%) were made for family visits.

Leisure travel accounted for 1.56mn trips (20.7%), while 65,200 trips (0.9%) were made for medical purposes.

Business travel accounted for 15,800 trips (0.2%) and 29,000 trips (0.4%) were made for education.

Compared with 2024, trips to visit relatives increased by 762,100, leisure trips rose by 614,300, medical trips increased by 4,300 and business trips grew by 2,100, while education-related trips declined by 6,900. 

Most trips by Uzbek citizens were to neighbouring countries.

Kyrgyzstan was the leading destination with 3.29mn trips, followed by Kazakhstan (1.35mn) and Tajikistan (1.31mn).

Other major destinations included Russia (433,400), Saudi Arabia (366,300) and Turkey (269,000).

Further destinations included the United Arab Emirates (139,400), Egypt (65,400), China (52,600), Vietnam (39,200), South Korea (37,800), Thailand (30,500), India (22,300), Azerbaijan (22,200) and Georgia (17,400).

Uzbek travellers made an additional 121,200 trips to other countries.

Uzbekistan aims to welcome up to 12mn foreign visitors in 2026.
