Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, TWSE: 2330), the world's largest contract chipmaker, reported record consolidated revenue of TWD514.806bn ($16.28bn) for August, up 53.3% year on year, Focus Taiwan reported on September 10.

The figure, which was also 10.1% higher than in July, points to continued momentum in orders tied to artificial intelligence computing, the single biggest driver of growth for the Hsinchu-based foundry, which manufactures chips designed by others and dominates production at the most advanced process nodes.

Cumulative revenue for the first eight months of the year came to TWD3.387 trillion, a rise of 39.3% from the same period of 2025, the company said in a statement.

Strong AI-related demand, combined with rising orders linked to new smartphone launches, was behind the record August result, according to analysts cited by the news agency.

Revenue for July and August combined reached TWD982.386bn, leaving the chipmaker on course to meet and possibly beat its guidance for the third quarter.

TSMC has forecast third-quarter revenue of between $44.6bn and $45.8bn, based on an assumed exchange rate of TWD32 to the US dollar.

The company has said that sustained AI demand should lift its 2026 revenue in US dollar terms by slightly more than 40% from a year earlier.

To keep pace with customer orders, TSMC has increased its planned capital spending for 2026 to between $60bn and $64bn.
