Russia's defence ministry said its forces struck the De Novo data centre in Kyiv, describing it as a major internet traffic exchange point supporting the Ukrainian military. The claim, carried by Russian state news agency TASS, could not be independently verified.

The ministry said it also hit power facilities in the Kyiv region, including the Kyivska substation, the Kyiv hydroelectric plant, the Trypilska thermal power plant and an energy storage facility. It added that it struck port infrastructure at Izmail in the Odesa region and a dry cargo vessel in the Black Sea that it said was carrying military equipment.

Ukraine's air force said Russia launched several ballistic missiles and 188 drones overnight, and that air defences downed 160 targets by 8am. A child died in Vyshhorod when a private house collapsed, and at least three people were killed in total, according to reports from Ukrainian officials. Kyiv has faced near-constant drone attacks, with 12 people killed and about 200 injured in the past week.

The strike is the latest in a Russian campaign against Ukraine's data centres and internet infrastructure. Russia hit another Kyiv data centre on September 27, injuring three people including two children, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Drone attacks on September 23 and 24 hit data centres and internet providers in Kyiv, disrupting service for about 100,000 households in the city and surrounding region. The Russian defence ministry claimed strikes on the New-Telco and United DC facilities.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described such targets as "critical civilian infrastructure" and rejected Russian claims that they serve the military.

De Novo is a Ukrainian data centre and cloud provider. Its Kyiv facility was built in 2010 and expanded in 2017, with capacity of 3.05MW, and it hosts major Ukrainian banks and the country's largest infrastructure-as-a-service platform.
