Poland’s Creepy Jar sells 0.5mn copies of its hit video game in less than two weeks

Polish video game developer Creepy Jar said on January 17 that total gross sales of its new title StarRupture have exceeded 500,000 copies on the Steam platform since its early access launch on January 6.
The Warsaw-listed company said estimated gross revenue from the sale of StarRupture and accompanying products on Steam amounted to $8.7mn before the deduction of taxes and fees.
The strong debut has fueled a rally in Creepy Jar’s stock. On the day of the launch, the share price skyrocketed to a two-year high and has gained more than 60% so far.
Analysts said the release triggered an improvement of sentiment towards the entire sector. Some market observers attributed a significant share price upside of Poland’s biggest player in the branch, CD Project, to the positive reaction from players and investors to Creepy Jar’s new game.
As of January 17, the wish list of players waiting to purchase the title on Steam included over 935,000 people.
Daily Puls Biznesu noted that the sales volume in less than two weeks beat market consensus.
“Mateusz Chrzanowski from Noble Securities maintained his assumption after the release that this level would be achieved in the first quarter, and that sales would reach 1.4mn copies throughout the year. Green Hell, which was released in August 2018, has sold 9mn copies in seven years,” the daily wrote on its internet portal.
