Nova Poshta moves closer to banking sector with planned BTA Bank acquisition
Ukraine's largest private logistics group, Nova, is preparing to acquire Kyiv-based BTA Bank as it seeks to expand into banking services under a newly created regulatory framework aimed at increasing financial inclusion, reported Ukraine Business News.
The deal, which remains under negotiation, could be completed as early as August 2026 and would allow Nova Group, owner of postal and delivery operator Nova Poshta, to transform the lender into a financial inclusion bank (FIB), a new category of financial institution established under recently approved legislation.
Ukraine's central bank confirmed that Nova has expressed interest in conducting banking activities. The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said it is currently in discussions with several companies exploring the possibility of obtaining FIB status. Neither Nova Group nor BTA Bank commented on the reported negotiations.
The move would mark a significant expansion for Nova, which has built one of Ukraine's largest logistics networks and already operates financial services through NovaPay, a payments platform widely used by customers across the country.
