North Macedonia starts preparations for 2026 budget rebalance amid global uncertainty

North Macedonia has started preparations for the 2026 budget rebalance as the government seeks to preserve macroeconomic stability and support economic growth amid growing global uncertainty, Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kocoska said on May 11.
In a post on social media, Dimitrieska-Kocoska said she had begun meetings with relevant ministers to prepare the revised budget framework for next year.
She said the Macedonian economy, like many others, was facing challenges linked to geopolitical tensions, the war in the Middle East, disruptions to energy flows, inflationary pressures and slower global economic growth.
The minister said the government remained committed to “responsible and disciplined management of public finances”, with a focus on maintaining macroeconomic stability, supporting economic activity and implementing capital investments.
According to Dimitrieska-Kocoska, the rebalance will be aligned with the government’s medium-term fiscal framework and strategic priorities, including fiscal consolidation, infrastructure development, energy transition and improving citizens’ living standards.
The minister also stressed that protecting citizens’ living standards would remain a priority through targeted support measures, stable public finances and policies designed to help the economy cope with global uncertainty.
