UAE renewable energy company Masdar and Finnish fund manager Taaleri Energia have inaugurated a 154-megawatt wind farm in Serbia, creating the country's largest wind power complex, Masdar said on September 14.

The Čibuk 2 project in Serbia's South Banat region, about 40 km from Belgrade, brings the capacity of the adjacent Čibuk complex to 312 MW, enough to supply around 178,800 households.

The two projects represent more than €500mn in foreign direct investment in Serbia's energy infrastructure, Masdar said.

Čibuk 2, comprising 22 Nordex turbines, is expected to generate up to 336,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually and avoid about 311,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The project supports Serbia's efforts to diversify its energy mix and reduce exposure to fuel price volatility. The country aims to add around 3.5 gigawatts of new wind and solar capacity by 2030, with renewables accounting for 45% of electricity generation.

Masdar has a further Serbian pipeline of more than 200 MW spanning wind, solar and battery storage projects.

Čibuk 2 is jointly owned by Masdar and Taaleri Energia and was developed with New Energy Solutions.
