Aksa Enerji (AKSEN) has obtained a $300mn six-year loan from Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) to finance its power plant investments on the African continent, AKSEN said on April 14.

In 2025, the company obtained a $150mn seven-year loan from the AFC to finance its African natural gas power plant investments.

With the obtaining of the second loan, the total outstanding sum reached $450mn.

AKSEN has three plants in Africa, including a 370-MW gas and liquid fuel plant in Ghana in addition to 60-MW and 66-MW liquid fuel plants in Mali and Madagascar, respectively.

In 2026, AKSEN will commission natural gas power plants with a combined capacity of 724 MW in Ghana (145 MW), Gabon, Senegal and Kazakhstan.

The company also has 119-MW and 50-MW plant projects in Burkina Faso and Congo, respectively.

Also last year, AKSEN obtained a $80mn 11-year loan from Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) to finance its 50-MW Kirsehir Alic and 41-MW Gaziantep Pamuk solar plant investment with equal storage facilities in Turkey. The loan has a one-year grace period.

AKSEN has 13 solar-wind power plant and storage unit projects in 10 different provinces of Turkey with a combined capacity of 891 MW. It also has an independent storage facility project with an installed capacity of 50 MW. When the projects are completed, AKSEN’s combined renewables capacity in Turkey will reach 1 GW.

AKSEN, launched in 1997, is a unit of Kazanci Holding, owned by Ali Metin Kazanci. The conglomerate also operates gas grids in Turkey via its unit Aksa Dogalgaz as well as electricity grids via Aksa Elektrik.

Aksa Elektrik operates an electricity grid in Samarkand region of Uzbekistan.

As of end-2025, AKSEN had a combined capacity of 3 GW in seven different countries. It has three gas plants in Uzbekistan with a combined capacity of 1.2 GW.

It also has a 900-MW gas plant in Antalya, southern Turkey, in addition to a 270-MW lignite coal plant in Bolu, northern Turkey, and a 188-MW fuel oil plant in Northern Cyprus.

Aksa also exports electricity to Iraq and Georgia.
