Israel arrests 25-year-old suspected of spying for Iran
Israeli police and the Shin Bet arrested a 25-year-old Arab Israeli suspected of carrying out missions for Iranian agents, the Times of Israel reported on October 2.
Israeli authorities have arrested dozens of people over the past two years on suspicion of working for Iran in return for money, with suspects typically recruited through social media, especially Telegram. The Shin Bet, Israel's domestic security agency, has also held foreign nationals, including a Russian citizen detained in December 2025 on suspicion of photographing Israeli ports for Iran.
The suspect, named as Mohammad Halaf from Baqa al-Gharbiya in northern Israel, is accused of contacting Iranian agents and carrying out tasks for them. He allegedly received thousands of shekels. He is due to be indicted on October 2 at Haifa District Court on charges of harming state security.
Qatar arrested at least 10 people in March on suspicion of spying for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
