Iran-US nuclear talks in Geneva pause for break as IAEA chief joins consultations

Iranian and American negotiators in Geneva briefly suspended their third round of talks on February 26 before preparing to resume the same day, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Busaidi describing the atmosphere as one of "creative and positive" exchanges, ISNA reported.
Busaidi, who is mediating the negotiations alongside the Omani delegation, wrote on X that negotiators had paused for a short break.
"We were exchanging creative and positive ideas in Geneva today, and now the American and Iranian negotiators have stopped the meeting for a break," he said, adding that talks were set to resume later in the day. "We hope to make further progress," he wrote.
A correspondent for Iranian state broadcaster IRIB confirmed the negotiations were continuing under Omani mediation, IRIB reported on February 26.
The Omani Foreign Ministry confirmed that Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), was present at the Geneva talks.
The ministry posted an image of a meeting between Busaidi and Grossi, saying discussions covered "technical issues related to the Iranian nuclear file."
Busaidi told Grossi the agency's professional and technical role in "ensuring the transparency, credibility, and management of relevant procedures" was of importance, according to the Omani Foreign Ministry's account on X.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei had previously indicated Grossi might attend the third round of negotiations. The Geneva talks represent the latest effort to reach an agreement on Iran's nuclear programme, with Oman serving as a longstanding back-channel between Tehran and Washington.
