Iran's new and unseen Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has confirmed that all official appointments made by his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, remain in force state media reported on March 16.

"After inquiries from some leaders and officials who were directly appointed by the martyr, I declare that there is no need to review the decrees at this time. Work must continue in accordance with the policies adopted during his lifetime," a statement from Mojtaba Khamenei's office said.

The appointments cover senior positions across Iran's power structure, including members of the Guardian Council, the head of the judiciary, the chief of state broadcasting, the chief of the armed forces general staff and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iranian authorities have not yet announced replacements for several top military officials killed in the strikes, including armed forces chief of staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour and Defence Council secretary Ali Shamkhani.

The US and Israel began strikes on Iranian territory, including Tehran, on February 28. Iran responded with missile strikes against Israeli territory and US military assets across the Middle East.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who also served as commander-in-chief of Iran's armed forces, was killed in the attacks.
