Iran has rejected an American proposal aimed at ending the conflict and will only agree to a ceasefire on its own terms, a senior political-security official told Press TV on March 25.

The official, who spoke exclusively to Press TV with knowledge of the proposal's details, said Iran would not allow US President Donald Trump to dictate the timing of the war's end. "Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met," the official said.

Tehran viewed the latest US overture, delivered through a friendly regional intermediary, as disconnected from what it described as America's failure on the battlefield. The official drew parallels with two previous rounds of negotiations in spring and winter 2025, which he characterised as deceptive, saying the US had shown no genuine intention of meaningful dialogue before launching military action.

The official outlined five conditions under which Iran would agree to end the war: a complete halt to what it termed aggression and assassinations by the enemy; the establishment of mechanisms ensuring the war is not reimposed on Iran; guaranteed payment of war damages and reparations; conclusion of the war across all fronts including for regional resistance groups; and international recognition of Iran's sovereign right to exercise authority over the Strait of Hormuz.

The official said these conditions were in addition to demands presented during the second round of negotiations in Geneva, held days before the US and Israel launched strikes on February 28.

Iran has informed all intermediaries acting in good faith that a ceasefire is contingent on acceptance of all conditions. "No negotiations will be held prior to that," the official said.

The statement comes as the US has sought to use regional countries to persuade Tehran to halt retaliatory strikes and allow American vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
