Industrial production in North Macedonia falls 1.9% in August

North Macedonia's industrial production fell 1.9% year-on-year in August 2026 (chart), driven by declines in mining and quarrying and manufacturing, the state statistical office said on September 30.
Production in the mining and quarrying sector decreased 10.1% compared with August 2025, while manufacturing output fell 1.3%. Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply recorded a 0.8% increase.
The decline in manufacturing was mainly driven by lower production in clothing, chemicals and chemical products, rubber and plastic products, metals, electrical equipment, machinery and equipment, and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.
Among the main industrial groupings, energy production decreased 6.5% year-on-year in August, while intermediate goods, excluding energy, fell 4.0%. Capital goods production dropped 8.9%.
In contrast, production of durable consumer goods increased 5.0%, while non-durable consumer goods rose 7.0%.
Despite the August decline, cumulative industrial production in January-August 2026 was 0.6% higher than in the same period of 2025.
