Global risk appetite and competition among Indian states for capital set the backdrop as India’s Maharashtra government clinched record investment pledges at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 19, 2026. The opening day haul underscores investor interest in India’s manufacturing, infrastructure and energy transition themes despite uneven global growth, All India Radio reported.

The state signed 19 memorandums of understanding totalling INR14.5 trillion ($160.7bn), nearly matching its full tally from the 2025 summit. Maharashtra government said the projects could create more than 1.5mn jobs across multiple industries, reinforcing expectations of sustained private investment momentum.

Most commitments were routed through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, which agreed MoUs worth about INR11 trillion with overseas partners. Participants included Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE:BAM) and Sumitomo Corporation (TSE:8053), signalling continued foreign appetite for long dated urban infrastructure and transport assets linked to the Mumbai metropolitan area.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held meetings with multinational companies to explore capacity expansion, localisation and supply chain resilience. Discussions included Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) and privately held Antora Energy, focusing on manufacturing scale up and clean energy integration, according to an official state release.

The administration framed the agreements within its Viksit Maharashtra 2047 roadmap and its ambition to support India’s longer term push towards a $5 trillion economy.

Maharashtra government plans further engagements at the forum around artificial intelligence, quantum computing, fintech and green energy, sectors that could shape future capital flows and influence investor positioning in Indian infrastructure, industrial and technology linked assets.
