Hungary’s 4iG unit in North Macedonia and Ericsson sign €100mn deal to build standalone 5G network
March 4, 2026

Hungary’s 4iG Group subsidiary One Macedonia Telecommunications has signed a four-year agreement with Ericsson to build a greenfield 5G Standalone (SA) network in North Macedonia, as part of a €100mn investment programme, Hungarian telco said on March 4.

The project envisages the deployment of more than 500 5G base stations over four years. The first urban 5G coverage is planned by spring 2027, while nationwide coverage is scheduled for completion by 2033, in line with licence obligations.

The supply and service contract was signed at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona and covers the period 2026–2029.

Ericsson will act as the exclusive technology partner, delivering radio access network (RAN) and core equipment, software solutions, implementation and long-term technical support.

The agreement follows a preliminary letter of intent signed in September 2025 and a frequency licence awarded on January 23, 2026.

As a greenfield investment, the network will be built without legacy constraints, enabling high-speed connectivity, ultra-low latency and improved energy efficiency.

The partners said the infrastructure will provide a future-proof digital platform for households, businesses and public institutions, supporting North Macedonia’s broader digital transformation.
