Estonia’s Sunly proposes €1.7bn Baltic data centre project
March 11, 2026

Estonian renewable energy company Sunly has submitted plans to build what could become the largest data centre in the Baltic states – a €1.7bn project in Risti, western Estonia, aimed at supporting the rapid growth of artificial intelligence infrastructure, regional outlet Laane Elu reported on March 9.

The planned capacity is around 180 megawatts. If completed, the complex would become Estonia’s largest electricity consumer and is expected to create more than 150 new jobs, according to Laane Elu.

The project is part of a broader effort to develop the digital infrastructure required for next-generation technologies.

Sunly is also planning additional wind energy projects and a battery storage facility, creating a renewable energy hub capable of supporting large industrial consumers such as data centres.

If realised, the Risti project would be one of the largest private technology infrastructure investments in the Baltic region, Laane Elu said.
