German company reportedly in talks to build €3bn AI factory near Plovdiv

German firm Brinell Compute GmbH is in advanced talks to invest around €3bn in building an artificial intelligence (AI) computing facility near Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Bulgarian media outlet Mediapool reported on February 2.
The plan was discussed at a Council of Ministers meeting on January 21, 2026, where the Bulgarian government approved a draft memorandum of intent and understanding with Brinell Compute, BTA reported. The memorandum formalised the parties’ intention to cooperate on the project, which is expected to create high-value jobs and strengthen Bulgaria’s technology sector.
According to Bulgaria's Minister of Innovation Tomislav Donchev, the selection of the investment site is at an advanced stage, with a final decision by Brinell Compute’s management expected in the second quarter of 2026, Mediapool reported. If approved, construction of the facility would begin by that time.
Brinell Compute, registered in Munich in September 2025 with a capital of €25,000, specialises in developing AI infrastructure. Its website says the company has previously implemented over 4 GW of grid-scale energy projects across Europe, providing more than €2.5bn in project financing.
