French sporting goods retailer Decathlon will open its second store in Argentina in the city of Córdoba on May 30, marking its first outlet outside the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.
The store, located on an upper floor of the Nuevocentro Shopping centre, forms part of a plan to invest more than $100mn over the next five years and open more than 20 outlets across the country. The Argentine operation is run by local partner Grupo One.
The Córdoba branch will offer around 3,300 products across more than 70 sports disciplines, ranging from entry-level equipment to high-performance gear, alongside products from Decathlon in-house brands including Quechua, Domyos and Kipsta.
The outlet will use radio-frequency identification technology and a mixed checkout system combining traditional tills and self-service stations.
The opening follows Decathlon's debut in Argentina in November 2025, when it launched its first store at the Al Río complex in Vicente López in Buenos Aires province. That location drew more than 10,000 visitors on its opening day and recorded the highest sales volume of any Decathlon opening in the Americas during that weekend.
Francisco Tedin, chief operating officer of Decathlon Argentina, said Córdoba had been selected as the first location in the country's interior for its population size, economic activity and sporting culture.
The retailer's original plan had been to open further stores in Buenos Aires before expanding inland, but strong e-commerce demand from Córdoba accelerated the decision, Tedin told local outlet La Voz.
The Córdoba store will create around 50 jobs, part of a wider plan targeting roughly 750 direct positions nationwide. Decathlon has confirmed further openings at the Alto Palermo and Abasto shopping centres in Buenos Aires during 2026.
The shopping centre operator invested more than $2mn over a year and a half to construct the space housing the store, said Antonio Heinz, commercial director of Nuevocentro Shopping.
Decathlon's expansion comes as international retailers move into Argentina following the easing of import restrictions under President Javier Milei's government. Founded in 1976 in Englos, France, Decathlon operates more than 1,760 stores globally.
