DATAWATCH: Nigeria inflation slows to 14.63% in September
October 15, 2026

Nigeria's headline inflation slowed to 14.63% year on year in September from 15.39% in August, according to September consumer-price data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on October 15.

Nigeria rebased its CPI in January to a 2024 base year with updated weights, creating a new series that is not directly comparable with pre-rebasing readings.

Food inflation edged up to 19.59% from 19.08% in August, while core inflation eased to 12.82% from 13.14%.

Month-on-month headline inflation rose to 0.84% in September from 0.74% in August, while food inflation increased to 1.17%.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has maintained a restrictive monetary stance as it seeks to contain inflation and stabilise the naira after a prolonged period of high price growth.
