UPDATE: Multiple airlines cancel Iran flights amid ongoing protests

At least 17 flights between Dubai and Iranian cities, including Tehran, Shiraz and Mashhad, scheduled for January 9 were cancelled by Flydubai, according to official airport information.
The cancellations affected routes to Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport throughout the day, with flights operated by Flydubai and Emirates showing cancelled status. No official reason was provided for the disruptions by the airlines' media departments; however, ongoing protests across Iran are likely to blame.

Only Iranian airlines are now connecting with regional airports, according to the latest information seen by IntelliNews.
Turkish Airlines, Ajet and Pegasus also cancelled several flights to Iranian cities on January 9, Turkish media reported. At least two flights between Doha and Tehran were cancelled, according to Doha airport schedules.
The company stated in a statement followed by Al-Sa’a Network that “due to regional developments in Iran, 17 flights scheduled for January 9 and 10, 2026 to the cities of Tehran, Tabriz and Mashhad have been cancelled .”
An Oman Air flight WY6183 from Muscat to Tehran scheduled for 11:25 on January 9 was also cancelled, Doha airport data showed.

Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and others have all cancelled flights on January 9 to the Iranian capital.
The flight cancellations coincide with nationwide internet disruptions in Iran that began on January 8 and continued on January 9, including the blocking of the main airport website for the capital's biggest airport, IKAC, which serves all international flights for the Iranian capital.

The main website for Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) in Tehran has been taken offline, like several other major websites in the country, as part of security measures by Iranian authorities.
NetBlocks, an internet monitoring organisation, reported network failures across Tehran and multiple cities as protests entered their 13th day.
Up to 100 people have been killed since demonstrations began on December 28 over economic conditions following currency devaluation, according to Iran Human Rights.
More than 2,000 people have been arrested, with scores more injured, according to reports being uploaded to satellite internet service Starlink, which has been smuggled into the country.
