An explosion rocked the town of Jebrin in the Hama countryside, central Syria, on July 2 after a fuel tanker caught fire.

According to sources from the Hama Police Command quoted by the state agency (SANA), the incident resulted in seven deaths and multiple injuries.

The Syrian News Channel confirmed that the blast caused widespread panic among residents, with several civilians sustaining varying degrees of injuries. The explosion was triggered by a fire in a stationary fuel tanker in a residential neighbourhood, which then detonated completely.

The blast scattered shrapnel and ignited fires in nearby homes and shops. Civil defence teams and emergency responders rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and transport the injured to hospitals for urgent treatment. Security and medical services were fully mobilised in response to the incident.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and explosion. To date, no initial findings suggest criminal intent or technical negligence.

This incident marks one of the deadliest explosions in the Hama countryside in recent months, amid growing concerns over the dangers of storing and transporting fuel in populated areas without proper safety measures.
